SERENITY PRAYER
GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY
Serenity meaning that I no longer recoil from the past, live in jeopardy of my behavior now or worry about the unknown future. I seek regular times to re-create myself and avoid those times of depletion which can make me vulnerable to despair and old self-destructive patterns.TO ACCEPT THE THINGS THAT I CANNOT CHANGE
Accept change in that I not cause suffering for myself by clinging to that which no longer exists. All that I can count on is that nothing will be stable except how I respond to the transforming cycles in my life of birth, growth and death.THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN
Which means remembering that to give up my attempts to control outcomes does not require I give up my boundaries or my best efforts. It does mean my most honest appraisal of the limits of what I can do.AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
Wisdom becomes the never forgotten recognition of all those times there was no way out and new paths opened up like miracles in my life.
Some quotes from people you may have heard of:
When you are lonely, I wish you love.
When you are down, I wish you joy.
When you are troubled, I wish you peace.
When things are complicated, I wish you simple beauty.
When things are chaotic, I wish you inner silence.
When things look empty, I wish you hope.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.Helen Keller
If we did all the things we were capable of doing,
we would literally astound ourselves.Thomas Edison
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances,
but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.Hugh Downs

I am DESPERATELY in need of volunteers for the “Bridge the Gap” program. The purpose of this program is to have an outside contact for inmates in either jail or prison. It is IMPORTANT to realize that you do not use your full name or home address when writing to these inmates. Instead, what you do is use your first name and last initial along with the Volusia County Intergroup address. I then pick up the mail from the inmate and forward it to the respective party. This is a very rewarding branch of Service; please contact Joe D. (Curly) through the Volusia County Intergroup Office, (756-2930).

FROM THE ARCHIVES:
DELTONA - DEBARY GROUP
This fine group was started jointly by the husband and wife team ‘Ruth and Frank G.’ of Deltona. The first meeting took place in February of 1967 at the Methodist Church on Normandy Blvd. in Deltona. At that time and continuing for nine years the Group was known as the Deltona Normandy Group.
Ruth G. was the first secretary and Cathy B. was the first treasurer. Frank G. was an Alanon and served as coffee maker for the first year. The first two meetings were moved downstairs to the Fellowship Hall. Much of the initial success of the group can be attributed to Reverend K. for his generosity and cooperation.
The other original members were Ruth and Joe K., John Y., and Earl Y. Many guests and members from the AA Ranch and from the DeLand Group and the Sanford Group attended the Deltona Normandy meetings. There were times in the summer when there would be only three or four members attending. In those days it seemed so many departed for the North for the summer months.
However, the meetings were nevertheless productive. By 1976, Reverend K. had been replaced and the group came under criticism by the church fathers for smoking and the resultant stench in the Fellowship Hall. A search for a new location was instituted and after a few weeks the group was welcomed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in DeBary and the name changed to the Deltona-DeBary Group.

Drunk on a Bus
A drunken man got on the bus late one night, staggered up the aisle, and sat next to a woman who was clutching a Bible.
She looked the wayward drunk up and down and said, "I've got news for you, mister. You're going straight to hell!"
The man jumped up out of his seat and shouted, "Oh, man, I'm on the wrong bus again!
